You or your loved one could be at risk of Diabetes.

Diabetes is a chronic,  disease characterized by elevated blood sugar levels which result in serious damage to the heart, blood vessels, eyes, kidneys and nerves.  According to the World Health Organisation, about 2.8% of Ugandans suffer from Diabetes (1).  Both the number of cases and the prevalence of diabetes have been steadily increasing over the past few decades.

"Diabetes causes complications and increases the overall risk of dying prematurely.  Adults with diabetes also have two- to three-fold increased risk of heart attacks and strokes. Nearly 3% of global blindness can be attributed to diabetes.   Diabetes is also among the leading causes of kidney failure. Reduced blood flow and nerve damage in the feet caused by diabetes can lead to foot ulcers, and the associated infections and complications can lead to the need for limb amputation, as well as severe and life-long health problems (2)"

Signs and symptoms of diabetes include excessive thirst, increased appetite, rapid weight loss and excessive urination. Individuals with a family history of diabetes are at increased risk and should screen more regularly. Speak to us today about screening for diabetes and related conditions.
